CNN.com - Rowling hints Harry Potter might die - Jun 27, 2006
I've always assumed he'd die. Given the link that exists between Harry and Voldemort, it made sense to me that perhaps one can't die without the other dying as well.

Mark Shea argues that Harry is a Christological figure and therefore he will die and rise again. I don't know that I buy that. I've never seen Harry as Christ, and don't really get how he is a figure of Him.

Comments:
She's probably just hinting at that to sell books. I'll be buying it anyway.

I agree with you, I don't think Harry is a Christological figure, his mother represents that moreso than he does because she died that he might live and she makes few book appearances.

On the scale of Christ-like fictional characters, 1 to 10, 10 being highest:

Aslan (The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe): 10.

Gandalf (Lord of the Rings): 6

Aragorn (Lord of the Rings): 3

Harry Potter: 2

Harry has placed himself in danger in order to save the life of his friends in the past, but the teenage angst that's been creeping in tends to cancel out any similarities.

Plus, he keeps looking for tail...
